Google's Gmail email service has been a huge success. It is possible to access your Gmail account by adding a protocol called IMAP to your iPhone. This application allows you to check your Gmail account using any offline email reader. This makes it perfect for use with the iPhone. The first thing you need to do is log in to your Gmail account and enable IMAP. To do this log in and go to the Settings section. Under there click on the Forwarding link and under POP/IMAP click on the Enable IMAP option.
After you have done the above, grab your iPhone and tap Settings, then tap Mail. After you have done so, make sure that you click Add Account. After you have done so, do not click the Gmail option, because this has not been updated to the newest IMAP settings. Instead, click Other. Once you have done so, you will then begin to enter you information. You will start off by entering your Name, and then you will put the Host Name, which is: imap.gmail.com after you have done this enter your full Gmail account address, which includes the @gmail.com at the end of your username.
You also need to move to the Outgoing Mail Server or SMTP. For the hostname enter smtp.gmail.com and make sure that you save your changes. You should now be able to access your Gmail account directly from your iPhone via IMAP and now have the ability to read the emails in your Gmail account right from the palm of your hand.
Having the ability to check your email wherever you are in incredibly important in today's world. No matter whether you are a high powered business executive or just somebody that likes to have regular access to their email once you have activated IMAP in your Gmail account and set up your iPhone you can stay in touch with your email contacts wherever you and your iPhone happen to be.
