The world famous crockpot is an amazing slow cooking device that has made planning meals a breeze for many families. So, what is the story of this amazing little device that has had such a big impact in the culinary world of families?

Many people get intimidated by cooking because of a perceived complexity involved. Nothing could be further from the truth with crockpot cooking. Slow cooking is all about adding the ingredients and then leaving it to do its thing.

To show you how easy it is, consider a common step in most cooking. With nearly every recipe, you must stir or flip things every so often. This is anthema with slow cooking. Stirring is strictly frowned upon. Just let the crockpot be!

Crockpot cooking is all about turn it on and forget it. As the meal cooks, you are going to start smelling the amazing aroma and get tempted to try a bite or two. Don't! Taking the top off the crockpot will impact and slow down the cooking.

Another aspect of the crockpot has historically made it a popular mechanism with college students and single people. What is it? The preparation usually can be tuned to produce enough quantity of food to last for days or even a week.

As with any good thing, you can alway make it a bit better. The same is true for slow cooking. By taking some of the following minor steps, you can produce even better meals that you and your family will love.

Meat slow cooked is truly a mouth watering thing. That being said, the relatively low heat levels are insufficient to brown the meat. You can get around this problem by browning the meet on the stove and then adding it to the pot.

Pasta and rice are two food products that don't do well in a crockpot. If you put them in at the outset of the cooking process, you will end up with mush. A better approach is to wait till there is roughly 30 minutes left and then add the pasta or rice.

Layering is something you can find in certain types of cooking. It is definitely a concern in slow cooking. Some foods cook faster than others. Slow cooking ingredients go on the bottom while faster cooking ingredients go on the top.

Slow cooking with a crockpot is often looked upon snidely by culinary gurus, but they are making a mistake. For people that don't have the tons of time to cook a gourmet meal, it is the ultimate answer.
