Tips on Canvas Painting

It is unbelievable how some people can actually express themselves through art. Don't you wish you are like them? Expressing your thoughts and feelings just by canvas painting? Well, if you are keen to learn canvas painting, read on.

I am sure you have heard of the phrase "A picture is worth a thousand words". Different colours and different designs expresses the way you feel. No matter how you feel, be it anger, happiness or even excitement can be translated onto a canvas. The unique thing about canvas painting is that every individual has their different styles.

You should choose the right canvases. No doubt about it that there are many types of canvases available in the market. Do not be mistaken. These canvases are made of different materials. Some are made of cotton while some are made of linen. However, the different materials gives out a different effect on the painting and some canvases are not meant for beginners. I suggest that you should use a cotton canvas if you are a beginner.

There are also many types of paints available. From water colours, to oil paints to acrylic paints. Most people think that beginners should use water colours to start painting but wait. That is not true. My suggestion and honest opinion is that beginners should start painting using acrylic paints. Acrylic paints are easier to handle. Another thing that you should have is a palette. Other than holding your paints, it also avoids one from using too much paint, thus wasting them.

There are many brushes available at the stationery store. Some are sold individually while some are sold in packets. A brush that is considered good quality is a brush that is soft. A fine tip brush is not necessarily good. The size of the brush depends on the area you want to paint on. A good quality brush is usually made of horse's tail.

One more thing that you should not forget: Turpentine or thinner. Your first masterpiece will definitely create a substantial amount of mess and there will be paint on the floor and maybe even on your hands.

The last thing you should get is a bottle of turpentine or thinner. Let's face it. It is you first time painting and it would not be very clean. It'll be a mess! A bottle of turpentine or thinner will help you get rid of the hard to remove stains easily.

In conclusion, not only professional painters can paint on canvas. Even you can start canvas painting. So, what are you waiting for? You should got get the materials needed and start painting right away. Best of luck!
