Siamese Cat The Favorite Shorthair

It is generally believed that the Siamese cat has its origin in Siam - Thailand of modern day. It is a very old domestic breed descended from an albino cat which was a gift given to the King Siam. In Thai fables they were the ones that would protect the royal castles and temples from evil spirits. In the Siamese culture the people believed that the soul of a high ranking person who had died would stay in the cat for a while. The Siamese cat first appeared in the West in mid 1800s.

There are traditional and modern Siamese cats. These cats have a long, slim body with a kinked tail along with a long neck and bright blue eyes which are almond shaped. The original cat has a round head hence it being called the apple head Siamese. However, the modern Siamese cat has a head which is elongated with larger ears and more pronounced features.

The original Siamese has a round face and is much more muscular than that of a modern Siamese. This breed is shorthaired with a base coat which is cream in color and the face, ears, tail and legs are dark in color. The body color can be either white or fawn with the Siamese markings. When a Siamese cat is first born, they are cream in color, the markings then develop over the next few months. The markings on a Siamese cat can be found on the paws, ears, tail, muzzle and lower legs.

The Siamese cat is after attention constantly. It is a very demanding cat and requires lots of time from the owner. Its mentality is very similar to that of a dog. It is very affectionate, smart, active, and curious and people orientated. It is well-known as a vocal and talkative cat. The Siamese talks a lot and when it is on heat it can become most annoying. Then it makes loud noises like that of the wild lion.

If a Siamese cat feels that it is neglected, it will become extremely jealous and throw tantrums. A Siamese cat does not think highly to being ignored, it is a breed which requires constant attention. The traditional Siamese cat however, has a more laid back temperament than that of the modern Siamese cat.

The Siamese cat is bored quickly. It is essential to have toys and an area for it to play and exercise. It needs to scratch and sharpen its claws to be healthy. A cat gym or cat tree with a scratching post would be most essential. Regular brushing is necessary in order to keep its coat in good condition.

The Siamese cat is a breed that matures early could be as early as 5 months old. They are also very fertile and the average litter size is about six. Ensure your pet is vaccinated if it is allowed to go outdoors. Should you give your cat fruit or greens they have to be boiled first to aid with the digestion. You can take your pet outside for a walk by using a harness and leash to stop it running away.

The Siamese cat is still one of the favorite shorthaired breeds in the world today. It is not suitable for everyone because it is a cat that needs lots of love and attention to be happy. It is also not the right pet for those who do not like a noisy cat. However, because of its affectionate nature, the Siamese cat can become your devoted companion and best friend. Being a shorthaired cat, it only needs minimal maintenance. The Traditional Siamese cat does have a quieter personality than the modern Siamese and will make a better pet for the household.
