Can The B.a.r.f. Diet Help Your Dog Live And Be Healthy 30 Years?
By now, many of you who have followed my writings know that I am The Dog Man Of Hot Springs (I also love cats), but I tend to adopt stray dogs. I would adopt the cats but most are feral and remain untouchable so I leave food out for them.
Television offers us one view of how to care for our dogs, especially the many "high quality" dog foods now available on the market. But how high quality are they? More and more research is revealing that even the highest quality dog food (and cat food) does not come close to what the b.a.r.f diet can do for dogs and cats.
Not being a vet, I cannot give you medical advice for your dog or cat. I can only share my own experience with Thor, switching him to this miracle b.a.r.f. diet and putting him on herbal tinctures. His energy level and peace of mind evolved to such a point that people were actually telling me they felt a "spiritual connection with this creature". He was walking with me 5 miles a day up until age 17. He had nearly been dead five years earlier. This diet is a force with which to be reckoned.
I am angry that more nutrition is not taught in vet schools. But I have read from several vet journals and was not surprised to see, for instance, that there is no minimal nutritional requirements for grains of any kinds for dogs or cats. But look at the processed foods. It is loaded with them; even the more "socially acceptable expensive quality foods" even if meat or meat by-products are the main staple.
Vets are worried that dogs will choke on chicken and pork bones. They will not. Raw bones are flexible. They are easily digested even by puppies and elderly dogs. Kibble is the big danger. More dogs choke on kibble daily than all other dog diets combined. But you never hear that in the news.
A simple food processor costs about $30. It works wonders. Within seconds, one can make a different meal daily. Thor loved hamburger and broccoli with a bit of carrots and crushed rosemary. But that was Thor. He had his own tastes. A great thing to do is test different diets for your own dog.
Our ancestors came very close to feeding their pets the ideal diet. If it had been raw, it would have been. It is the raw enzymes in the raw foods that spark the system into regeneration, often no matter how severe the digestive problem that the wrong foods caused, and trust me, they cause them.
While on a business trip a few months ago, I was talking to a young woman next to me. She was sad of her two chronically sick labs I explained the b.a.r.f. diet and she was excited. I told her vets did not know too much about it.
A woman in front of us turned around abruptly and said, "Sorry to interrupt. I am a vet in Sterling, Va, an traditional one. But I know as much as anyone about the b.a.r.f diet and I would never recommend feeding a dog or cat processed food."
At first I couldn't believe what I was hearing. But she name dropped many of the famous b.a.r.f. diet doctors and quoted from their books and I knew she was telling the truth. I asked her how she made a living and she said, "On quantity from word of mouth, not return customers, generally."
Thor was a survivor. He came back three times from the gates of death. This past week, his body gave out at age twenty one. I have shed many tears but am happy I had the chance to own this amazing creature, and, learn of this incredible diet. I hope and pray others will learn about it and have a similar experience that I had with my loving dog Thor.
