Secret Tomahawk Fighting Techniques

The tomahawk is a type of hatchet with a characteristically straight shaft that is native to many of the original inhabitants of the North American continent.

It was a Native American tool, but some of the early European settlers adopted the tomahawk as well. It was commonly used as a weapon. The Native American tool makes a very effective weapon if you master the proper tomahawk fighting techniques.

The very first Native American tomahawks were made from stone, such as polished soapstone. The blades and handles were usually intricately carved and designed. Flint rock, deer horns, and the jawbones of big animals were often used to create tomahawks.

You'll find that most cultures have their own version of a tomahawk or a hatchet tool. In fact, even the way you use them is very similar to the Native American tomahawk fighting techniques.

The Vikings were renowned for their skill in using axe weapons. The British used belt axes, and French had their fransica.

Tomahawks were multipurpose. Not only could they be used as weapons and tools, they could also be used for smoking some tobacco. The natives built the blade such that there were a pipe bowl in the opposite side.

Considering the turbulent relationship the Native American tribes had with early European settlers, the dual purpose of the weapon was very appropriate.

The tomahawk could serve either as a peace pipe offering, or if relations between the parties turned sour-as they often did-it could instantly be turned around and serve as a weapon of war.

The tomahawk can be used by itself, or it could be complemented with another weapon. The second weapon would usually be a long bladed knife. This is an effective and deadly combination that works for a variety of combat situations, and also against either single or multiple opponents.

The tomahawk works equally well as a defensive and an offensive weapon, and a number of tomahawk fighting techniques have been identified as key components to these roles. Tomahawks can be used to chop, slice, cut, rake, catch and pull, punch and even deflect oncoming blows from opponents.
