Headshots

Headshots are one of the most important tools for an actor. The headshot is, as the name suggests, a photo of the actor's face. It is vital to have good quality prints and to have your headshots available for emailing. This will be your calling card with casting directors so it should be professionally done so that auditions will keep coming.

There are lots of people who will offer to take headshots, but you should be careful that you are not paying more than you need to. It is possible to get perfectly competent headshots done for as little as £60. When booking for your headshots, find out whether there are any additional charges for getting the copyright to your photos and whether the photographer will be able to supply them ready for emailing.

In order for your headshot to be considered professional there are a lot of hoops to jump through. Most of these are perfectly sensible although some have more to do with industry practice than anything else.

When sending physical prints they should normally be 10 by 8 and in black and white. Colour prints are becoming more popular and many photographers will supply these at no extra cost. When emailing, ensure that the file size is not too large as casting directors get very annoyed when their mailbox is filled with attachments and will often delete emails with large attachments without even looking at them. You won't get any auditions if your applications are not even read! If you are interested in modelling, you will need a z card and to build up a portfolio which you can show to casting directors at meetings.

At Audition Now, we keep you informed about the casting calls and opportunities for exposure so that you can apply for jobs whether you are interested in theatre, television or modelling, or all three.
